Understanding Locations
In Space, a Location represents a real, physical place where your items are stored. The power of Locations comes from their ability to be nested inside one another, creating a clear and logical hierarchy that mirrors your actual storage setup.
This allows you to be as general or as specific as you need. For example, a valid location could be:
- A building:
Main Warehouse
- A room within that building:
Prop Storage
- A specific shelf in that room:
Shelf A1
- A bin on that shelf:
Bin 04 - Metalworks
Having a well-organized location tree is the key to finding your items quickly.
Navigating the Location Tree
You can view and manage your entire location hierarchy from the Locations page, accessible from the main navigation menu.
- The page displays your locations as an expandable tree.
- Click on any location to expand or collapse it and see the sub-locations inside.
Creating a New Location
You can add new locations at the top level (e.g., a new building) or as a sub-location within an existing one.
- Navigate to the Locations page.
- Find the location where you want to add a new sub-location. If you’re adding a top-level location, you can start from the main “Storage” root.
- Tap the settings icon next to the desired parent location.
- A menu will appear. Select Create Sub-location.
- In the “Create location” modal:
- The parent location is pre-filled.
- Enter a name for your new location in the Location name field.
- Click Submit.
Your new location will now appear in the tree.
Ritchie’s Tip: When you’re first setting up, start with broad locations like buildings and rooms. You can always add more specific locations like shelves and bins later as you organize!
Managing Existing Locations
To rename or delete a location, simply tap the settings icon next to it.
- Rename: Change the text in the Rename Location field and click the Rename button.
- Delete: Click the Delete Location button. Be careful! This will also delete any sub-locations nested inside it.
